Sub rolls
Whether you are planning to make homemade Hlöllabátur or Subway sandwiches, this is the perfect bread for your sandwich.
1 cup lukewarm water
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp dry yeast
1 tsp salt
4 Tbsp mild-tasting oil
2 1/2 - 3 cups flour
Start by dissolving the yeast and sugar in the lukewarm water. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes to bloom. Then add salt, oil, and 2 cups of the flour. Knead the dough well and add flour until the dough stops sticking to the mixing bowl. You may not need to use all the flour.
Place the dough in a bowl and cover with a lid or cling film. Let the dough rise for 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Knead the dough again and divide it into loaves. Shape into 25 cm long and thin loaves. Place on baking paper and brush with milk. At this point, you can sprinkle seeds over the bread.
Allow the loaves to rise for 30 minutes and then bake for 25 minutes at 175°C.
Allow the bread to cool before slicing.
