Muffuletta Bread

Muffuletta Bread

1 cup warm water

1 tbsp sugar

2 tsp dry yeast

3 cups flour (480 g)

1.5 tsp salt

2 tbsp olive oil

Sesame seeds for topping

Knead the dough and let the bread rise until it has doubled in size. Shape it into a ball and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Bake at 220°C for 10 minutes, then lower the temperature to 175°C. Bake for an additional 25 minutes at the lower temperature. The bread should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom when fully baked. It's best to let the bread cool completely before slicing.

Then you can fill the bread with delicious toppings and pack it in a picnic basket along with a bread knife.

Ideas for fillings include honey mustard dressing, iceberg lettuce, cheese, and smoked ham. A traditional muffuletta sandwich features some kind of olive salad with various root vegetables, several types of meats, and cheese.
